Weaving together found images and family archive, Written in the Tides is a photobook that traces Hong Kong’s colonial history under British rule for 156 years. Through the childhood and adolescence of Man Yiu (Melissa's mother), the book follows the experience of growing up during a period of turbulent social and political change. Major moments of personal growth and historical events intersect throughout the narrative, summarizing the Hong Kong identity and experience that continues to exist today.
