Born Nga Hei Mui, Melissa is from Hong Kong but was raised in Beijing, China, where she gained her Third Culture Kid (TCK) identity. This unique life experience is a major part of her image-making process. Through photography and archival materials, Melissa often discusses the complexities of her identity by drawing on personal experiences. Themes of self-discovery, cultural upbringing, and reflection are explored within her work.
Melissa is currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
