Born Nga Hei Mui, Melissa is from Hong Kong but was raised in Beijing, China, where she gained her Third Culture Kid (TCK) identity. This unique life experience is a major part of her image-making process. Through the use of photography, video and archival materials, Melissa often discusses the complexities of her identity by drawing from personal experiences. Themes of self-discovery, family dynamics and artificial intelligence are explored within her work.
Melissa is currently based in New York City, pursuing her M.S. degree in Museums & Digital Culture at Pratt Institute.
